President Droupadi Murmu on Friday virtually inaugurated the Senior Citizen Home of Mahabodhi Positive Living Society at Teli Village in Tawang. The event took place in the presence of Dr. Virendra Kumar, Union Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment, along with other dignitaries at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi.

From Tawang, Deputy Commissioner Kanki Darang, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Leki Gombu, PRI members, Gaon Burahs, senior citizens, villagers, students, and officials from the Department of Women and Child Development joined the ceremony.

After the inauguration, DC Kanki Darang and ZPC Leki Gombu visited the facility, warmly interacting with residents and staff. As a gesture of goodwill, ZPC Leki Gombu generously donated Rs. 50,000 to the Senior Citizen Home, while DC Tawang contributed essential ration items to support the residents.

Speaking on the occasion, President Murmu highlighted the importance of caring for and respecting the elderly, saying it has always been a part of Indian culture. She noted that children often feel emotionally connected and comfortable with their grandparents, who serve as emotional pillars for the family. When elders witness the growth and success of their families, they remain both emotionally and physically healthy, she added.

The President said that in today’s fast-paced and competitive world, senior citizens play a crucial role by offering guidance, wisdom, and emotional support to the younger generation. She stated that the vast experience and knowledge possessed by elders help youth tackle complex challenges.

President Murmu further shared that old age is a valuable stage of life, providing an opportunity for spiritual growth, reflection, and meaningful living. Spiritually empowered senior citizens, she said, can lead the country and society toward greater prosperity and development.

“Elderly people are the living links to our past and the guiding lights for our future,” she added. “It is our collective responsibility to ensure that our seniors live their golden years with dignity, joy, and active involvement.”
