Preparations In Full Swing For 2nd Edition Of Arunachal Rang Mahotsav, Set To Take Place From Nov 22

Preparations are in full swing for the second edition of the Arunachal Rang Mahotsav, a theatre festival set to take place from November 22 in the state capital, Itanagar. The festival, which started in 2023 has gained recognition for bringing together theatre enthusiasts in Arunachal Pradesh.

Speaking to Northeast Live, Riken Ngomle, Director of the Arunachal Rang Mahotsav, Assistant Professor, and Chief of Theatre in Education at the National School of Drama, New Delhi, revealed that this year’s edition will feature theatre groups from five countries: Poland, Switzerland, the United States (Los Angeles), Nepal, and Taiwan.

“It’s an honor for Arunachal Pradesh to host such an international gathering of talent,” Ngomle said.

Team Arunachal will present over 30 plays during the 12-day festival, celebrating the diverse cultural and folk stories of different tribes of the state. “This year, we are focusing on promoting local talent while offering a platform for cross-cultural exchange,” Ngomle added.

Meanwhile, Actors from different parts of the state are excited to participate in the event.

Arunachal Rang Mahotsav is a first-of-its-kind dynamic platform showcasing the best of Arunachal Pradesh’s creative talent. As one of India’s premier cultural festivals, ARM is set to light up the stage with a fusion of traditional and contemporary performances.

From rich oral folklore traditions to local performing arts, dance, and martial arts forms of the region, this festival is a celebration of the artistic spirit that defines Arunachal. ARM is not just a festival—it’s a movement to preserve, promote, and innovate cultural heritage.

Spread out over twelve days, this edition of Arunachal Rang Mahotsav will encompass a wide variety of performance arts including proscenium performances, street theatre, and theatre in intimate spaces, showcasing both national and international performances. The festival ambience will feature a variety of public folk and traditional art forms like Kalaripayattu, Gotipua, Thang Ta, Chhau, Theyyam, etc.
