In a statement, the opposition SDF alleged that SKM workers started pelting stones when Komal Chamling and SDF supporters were campaigning in the area.

A day after accusing the ruling SKM of trying to manhandle party chief Pawan Chamling, the SDF today claimed that Chamling’s daughter Komal Chamling too came under attack at Damthang Bazar in Namchi today.

In a statement, the opposition SDF alleged that SKM workers started pelting stones when Komal Chamling and SDF supporters were campaigning in the area.

The SDF claimed that several SDF supporters were injured in the incident that took place in the presence of police. The party added that despite the assault, Komal Chamling and SDF supporters continued their campaign.

The SDF in a post on Facebook condemning the attack in the strongest terms wrote, “Ms Komal Chamling attacked by SKM goons and pelted with stone while peacefully campaigning. Today at Damthang Bazar, Ms. Komal Chamling and youths of SDF were campaigning peacefully when dozens of SKM youths suddenly arrived and began pelting stones. Many youths of SDF were injured by the assault in broad daylight in front of police. The gang of SKM thugs were led by Pratap Pariyar and Bigen Gurung of Damthang who are notorious members of SKM.

Taking caution of the stones being pelted, Ms. Komal Chamling and SDF members continued their campaign and greeted the people with khada and presented the manifesto of SDF. Despite the constant danger of SKM thugs, SDF party is adamant in working towards a better future and informing the people of the progressive plans in the Janta’s Manifesto. SDF party believes that Sikkim will be peaceful again, Sikkim will be great again.”

It was only yesterday (Sunday) SDF workers claimed that their party chief and former Chief minister Pawan Chamling had a narrow escape when violence broke out at Namchi Bazar. Chamling, along with SDF workers, was headed to the nearby Kishan market when a clash erupted with alleged SKM workers.

Several people received minor injuries in the clash that broke out when SDF Chief Pawan Chamling was headed for a public meeting. The SDF claimed that Pawan Chamling was pushed by SKM supporters. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

Supporters from both sides engaged in shoving and pushing with Pawan Chamling trapped between the two groups, even as police tried to bring the situation under control.
