The 4th Denzong Guenki Lhopoi Gaton, Pre-Losoong Festival 2022, was celebrated on December 14 at Manan Kendra, organised by Denzong Lughar Sungkyop Tshokpo in collaboration with Bhutia Kya Rab Yargay Tshokpo.
Addressing the event, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang announced the construction of Dodrupchen Rinpoche’s statue in a Simik monastery this would be done after the coming budget session.
CM Tamang also spoke about the Bhutia-Lepcha seats and said that out of 1147 wards, 40% are reserved for the Schedule Tribe, of which 20% are for the Bhutia-Lepcha community.
Referring to people highlighting the underdevelopment of Sikkim after the his party SKM formed the government, CM Tamang said that it took time for his government to recover the losses that the state had suffered during the previous government.
Mentioning about the development done by the current government, he said that there was a huge expansion in the heath sector of and teachers appointment policy was introduced after the COVID-19 pandemic.
He also mentioned that no one can remove or amend Article 371F as it is for the protection of the people of Sikkim.
In the same event, Chief Patron of DLST, Sonam Lama, said that there has not been any loss in the panchayat seat of Bhutia-Lepcha; instead, no one has been suspended or transferred from Bhutia-Lepcha after 2019. He also said that there were 290 Bhutia-Lapcha Panchayats and 36 Bhutia-Lepcha Zilla Panchayats in 2017, and now it has increased to 306 Bhutia-Lepcha Panchayats and 39 Bhutia-Lepcha Zilla Panchayats.
On the occasion, prayers were offered for Late 4th Dodrupchen Rinpoche followed by a cultural programme.
