Sikkim-based author Prajwal Parajuly has been awarded a literary prize by the Chambre de Commerce et d’Industrie Franco-Indienne (CCIFI) for Fuir et revenir, the French translation of his novel ‘Land Where I Flee’.

The novel was published by Emmanuelle Collas and translated by Benoîte Dauvergne.

‘Land Where I Flee’ is a family saga in which four siblings living in various parts of the world reconnect at their Himalayan hometown for their grandmother’s 84th birthday.

Meanwhile, the award marks the 75th anniversary of India’s independence and it was given at a ceremony held yesterday in Paris.

The CCIFI decided to award a literary prize to a young Indian author for a book written on the theme of travel and the discovery of culture.

Invited by the Institut Français and the French embassy in late 2020 to tour France, Prajwal has been teaching creative writing at Sciences Po, while his book has won hearts and received numerous accolades.

Already shortlisted for the Emile Guimet Prize and the First Novel award, the book will soon find new readers in a paperback version published by 10/18

Parajuly’s first book, the widely acclaimed ‘The Gurkha’s Daughter‘, was nominated for the Dylan Thomas Prize in the US and the Story Prize in the UK. It will be published in French in September 2022.
