Pradyot said he had presented several demands, including reserving 25 out of the 60 seats in the Tripura Legislative Assembly.

Tipra Motha founder and royal scion of Tripura, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, has announced that the second round of Tiprasa Accord talks will take place in the third week of November in New Delhi.

During the first round of talks on September 20, Pradyot said he had presented several demands, including reserving 25 out of the 60 seats in the Tripura Legislative Assembly for Tiprasa community and a reserved seat for the Manipuri community. He reiterated these demands in his address, stating that he would not compromise on issues such as land rights, direct funding, and improved representation for the indigenous people. This was revealed during a Facebook Live session on Wednesday, where Pradyot provided updates on the ongoing negotiations with the Indian government.

Pradyot said that some officials from the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) would be present during the talks this time.

He said “Negotiating with the Government of India is very tough, and I have to set aside personal concerns. I haven’t diluted any of our demands, as doing so would weaken our position. Until we secure land rights, more seats in the Assembly, direct funding, a central university, and a hospital, I will not compromise. Politics shouldn’t be everything, because a commitment to the community is more important. If we want a better future, we must not play politics with our people.”

It needs to be mentioned that, the first round of the talks of a tripartite agreement between the Central Government, the Government of Tripura and the TIPRA Motha Party (TMP) was held in New Delhi on September 20, 2024.

Pradyot revealed that in that meeting, he had also asked for the inclusion of Kokborok language and other native languages in the 8th Schedule, a development board for tea gardens, a central tribal university, an AIIMS-like university, among other demands.

What was decided at the first meeting on Sept 20?

It was decided that the Joint Working Group will sit every two months to carry forward what will be a structured discussion.

A decision was taken to develop a comprehensive framework aimed at addressing the genuine concerns of the Tiprasa people, who have endured hardships for the past 75 years.

Tipra Motha leaders also submitted a memorandum to the Convenor of the Joint Working Group AK Mishra.

When was the Tipra Accord Signed?

The agreement was signed on March 2, 2024, in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, and other senior leaders of the TMP, TTAADC CEM and others attended the meeting.

Senior state government officials including Chief Secretary J K Sinha were also there during the signing of the agreement.
