Situation turned tense in Agartala today following the death of a BJP worker, Tapan Bhowmik, who succumbed to his injuries today after he was allegedly attacked by CPIM workers on March 2, the day when the assembly elections were out.
Irate BJP workers mourned the death of the party leader who is from the Barjala constituency and staged protest seeking action those guilty. The protestors blocked the VIP road connecting Agartala to the MBB airport, Secretariat, State Assembly, Raj Bhavan, High Court as well as other important offices.
However, later with the intervention of former deputy chief minister and senior BJP leader Jishnu Dev Varma, former MLA Dilip Das assured the protestors that necessary follow up action will be taken to book the perpetrators.
As per inputs, two persons accused to be involved in the incident have been arrested.
The former deputy Chief Minister expressing his condolences assured of all assitance to the family members of the deceased BJP leader and said he will be discussing the matter with the Chief Minister.
“However, the most important is the arrest of the attackers. Till now 2 have been arrested,” Jishnu Dev Varma added.
