Poppy Cultivation worth Rs 3.90 crore destroyed

Around 65 acres of poppy plantation was destroyed and burnt down on the spot
Manipur police destroyed large areas of poppy plantations across the state in December. A team of Churachandpur district police, along with 1st IRB, conducted a mass poppy destruction drive in the forest area of Thinghangjang village, Churachandpur district. Police source said that the joint security team went to the village on Friday around 8.50 am on receiving information of large-scale poppy plantations.
During the drive, around 65 acres of poppy plantation was destroyed and burnt down on the spot. Monetary value of the poppy plants that the joint team destroyed during the drive is estimated to be around Rs 3.90 crore.
The police also arrested an accused identified as one Kamsei Jaokip, 48, son of Otthang and chief of Thinghangjang village. A case has been registered in connection with the incident.
