Poor quality shoes to Nagaland Police given intentionally or by oversight: DGP

Amid the row regarding alleged supply of poor quality shoes to Nagaland police, Director General of Police (DGP) of Nagaland Police, Rupin Sharma today said that the bad quality shoes provided may be from some old stock given either intentionally or by oversight. He added that the latest supply of shoes to the Nagaland cops this year has been approved by the Line Committee.

DGP Sharma stated that a preliminary investigation has been conducted into the viral video that showed poor quality shoes being supplied to Nagaland Police personnel, however, Police have yet to determine the identity of the person who uploaded the video on social media.

DGP Sharma said that the distribution of uniforms and ration is a constant process based on demand, and that the shoes provided may be from an old stock issued to someone either intentionally or by oversight. Sharma stated that the latest supplies of shoes received this year were approved by the Line Committee and the quality is not in question.

For the time being, the Unit Commanders have been directed not to supply any non-perishable items from the old stock to anyone, said the DGP. He further appealed to the Police personnel to share their grievances with the concerned authority instead of sharing in social media.

“If anyone has any issues please come to us (Police) with your grievances instead of going to the media. We think we have vibrant mechanisms in place and we can address all such issues. Whoever has upload the video should have come to us. Uploading the video was wrong in the first place,” said Rupin Sharma.

It may be mentioned here that a video showing poor quality shoes supplied to an official of the Nagaland police is doing round on social media for a week.
On Sunday, taking note of the viral video, Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton today urged the Director General of Police (DGP) of Nagaland, Rupin Sharma to verify the authenticity of the video and take appropriate measures.
Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton said that the welfare and safety of the State Police personnel must be ensured.
