As many as five trucks were confiscated by police at Lakhimpur on charges of illegal cattle smuggling.
Five pairs of drivers-handymen were arrested. The trucks bound for Nagaon were carrying more than 100 cows.
Police have taken note of cattle smugglers smuggling cows in trucks in the dead of the night in Lakhimpur district.
It is also being suspected that several local businessmen in Lakhimpur are also involved in the illegal cattle trade.
