Assam has become a hot spot for cattle smuggling in the region. Routes near Guwahati have become the transit points for cattle smugglers.

Police have confiscated 3 trucks carrying 90 cattle at the National Highway No. 31 at Gauripur in North Guwahati yesterday.

The three 12 wheeler trucks were discreetly smuggling the cows from West Bengal to Meghalaya. Along with the trucks, six people have been apprehended by the police.

While three trucks were confiscated, five other trucks managed to escape after breaking through the barricade that police had put up.
