Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a red-carpet welcome as he arrived in Bhutan this morning on a two-day state visit during which he will hold talks with Bhutanese leaders to further deepen the bilateral ties.

This is PM Modi’s second visit to Bhutan and the first since his re-election. He was received by his Bhutanese counterpart Dr Lotay Tshering and others on his arrival at the Paro International Airport.

A child presented a bouquet to the prime minister as he stepped off the plane in Paro- a valley town in Bhutan, west of the capital, Thimphu.

After reaching Bhutan, PM Modi tweeted that he was extremely grateful to the Bhutanese PM for welcoming him at the airport and called Tshering’s gesture deeply touching.

PM Modi received a guard of honour at the airport. During his visit, PM Modi is expected to sign 10 MoUs in fields like education amongst others.

Five inaugurations are also expected to take place, including the Mangdechhu hydroelectric power plant and the ISRO-built earth station in Thimphu. The Prime Minister also greeted the Indian community in Bhutan.
