Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the BJP’s nationwide membership drive in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi on Saturday, it is his second visit after the Lok Sabha victory.

Modi arrived in his parliamentary constituency this morning to launch the mass membership drive through which the BJP aims to increase its party strength by 20 per cent.

Addressing a gathering on the occasion, the prime minister talked about the Union Budget 2019-20 and his thoughts on India’s growth trajectory in the coming years.

PM Modi said that the membership drive will further connect people from all walks of life with the BJP family.

The prime minister was accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, BJP working president JP Nadda and the state unit chief of the saffron party, Mahendra Nath Pandey.

PM Modi also unveiled a tall bronze statue statue of Lal Bahadur Shastri at Varanasi airport, after which he launched a tree-plantation campaign — “Anand Kanan”.

He paid tributes to Syama Prasad Mukerjee, the Jana Sangh founder, on his 118th birth anniversary, saying his contribution to national integration will always be remembered.

The drive will take place in Kashi too where PM Modi would be present. He is also scheduled to visit Virtual Museum, Man Mahal.
