With many regions of India celebrating their traditional new year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday greeted the people of Assam on the occasion of Rongali Bihu.
Taking to his Twitter account, PM Modi wrote, ”Bohag Bihu greetings to everyone. Greetings to the people of Assam on the sacred occasion of Bohag Bihu. I pray for everyone’s health and happiness. May Assam touch new heights of prosperity.”
Bihu committees have organised Mukoli Bihu programmes across the state following the COVID-19 norms set by the government. Along with Assam, different parts of the country are celebrating the new year as per Hindu traditions and also their traditional calendars.
North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor and Assam health, finance and education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also conveyed his greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of Rongali Bihu.
Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden on Tuesday (local time) extended his greetings to the South Asian and Southeast Asian communities, celebrating festivals like Rongali Bihu, Vaisakhi, Navratri and Songkran.
Taking to his official Facebook page Biden wrote, “Jill and I send our warmest wishes to the many South Asian and Southeast Asian communities celebrating Vaisakhi, Navratri, and the incoming New Year across the country this week. Happy Aluth Avurudda, Happy Bihu, Happy Cheti Chand, Happy Gudi Padwa, Happy Khmer New Year, Happy Navreh, Happy Pohela Boishakh, Happy Pana Sankranti, Happy Pi Mai, Happy Puthandu, Happy Rongali Bihu, Happy Songkran, Happy Tamil New Year, Happy Ugadi, and Happy Vishu! In this season of hope, we are wishing this New Year brings you and your families prosperity and light.”
