Prime Minister Narendra Modi has gifted an Assam stole to Iriana Joko Widodo, the spouse of Indonesian President Joko Widodo during the 2 day G20 Summit that concluded in New Delhi recently.
The stole was presented in a Kadam wood box which was handcrafted by the artisans of Karnataka. The stole has been crafted by skilled artisans of Assam using Muga silk.
Assam stoles are not just garments. They embody the rich cultural heritage of the Assamese people and their weaving traditions.
These stoles are known for their intricate designs and motifs that often draw inspiration from the region’s natural surroundings, often showcasing elements like the flora and fauna.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented all visiting G20 Heads of State, leaders and their spouses with handcrafted artefacts signifying India’s rich culture.
The spouse of Japanese PM Fumio Kishida, Yuko Kishida was gifted a Kanjivaram stole. An elegant Banarasi stole was given to Akshata Murty, the spouse of UK’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
The spouse of Brazil President Lula da Silva, Rosângela da Silva was presented a Kashmiri Pashmina stole in a Papier Mache box.
The spouse of Mauritius PM Pravind Jugnauth, Kobita Ramdanee, was gifted Iakkat stole packed in a Teak Wood Box.
The spouse of Argentina’s President Alberto Fernández, Marcela Luchetti was presented a Banarasi Silk stole in an Ebony Jali Box.
The other gifts included Sheeshamwood Sandook with Brass Patti, a Khadi scarf, Araku Coffee, Kashmir Saffron and many more.
The 2-day G20 Summit held in New Delhi on September 9-10 marked the end of all the G20 processes and meetings held throughout the year among ministers, senior officials, and civil societies.
