A horrific road accident early this morning killed 12 picnic goers including 3 children on the spot
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, reacting to the horrific accident that occurred at Dergaon in Golaghat district today, said that that the police have issued an SOP for picnickers asking them to come out for picnics only after the early morning fog has dissipated and to return home before the fog comes back.
Speaking to media, Sarma said, “The main thing about the accident is that people should not start their picnic journeys at 4.30 in the morning. Today the police have issued a SOP that only after fog disappears picnic buses will be allowed to run and they have to return before the fog reappears.”
“I have been informed that the picnickers went out at 4.30 a.m at that time the fog makes it impossible for anyone to have a clear view. So I would like to request the picnic parties to at least wait till the sun rises to venture out otherwise such accidents will keep happening,” he added.
Meanwhile, Assam Transport Minister Parimal Suklabaidya said that the government will spare no expenses to find out the cause of the accident, he said, “There was not a lot of traffic in the area, only the bus and the truck were there, we have also been informed that construction was going on in the area. We will send the Commissioner of Transport, the lead agency head and the National Highway Authority of India chief of Assam to the site to get to root of the cause of the accident.”
A major road accident took place today morning in Dergaon after a bus boarded by picnickers who were on their way to the Tilinga Mandir in Tinsukia district collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction in the wrong lane. 12 people including 3 minors have died.
