Parents Sell Off Newborn For Rs 30,000 in Assam’s Dhemaji

The incident came to light when the baby was brought to a renowned paediatrician of the town by the woman who allegedly bought the infant.
In a shocking incident indicating abject poverty in certain areas of Assam, a couple sold off their newborn baby to a childless couple for Rs 30,000. The incident has been reported from Silapathar in Assam’s Dhemaji.
The incident came to light when the baby was brought to a renowned paediatrician of the town by the woman who allegedly bought the infant.
It is learnt that the infant was born at the Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh but was later sold to the couple who are residents of Sipajhar.
The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) reported the incident to the Sipajhar Police Station, and as a result, a case was filed and necessary action was initiated.
