Four eminent personalities from northeast received the country’s third-highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan, from President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday.

The personalities include veteran journalist from Assam Prafulla Govinda Baruah, Manipur based weaver L Subadani Devi, Mizoram’s educationist A Zakia. However, weightlifting champion Mirabai Chanu will receive the award as the athlete from Manipur is in Gold Coast to take part in the Common Wealth Games.

Former India cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni received the country’s third highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan, from President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday. Dressed in an Army uniform, Dhoni marched to the dais to receive Padma Bhushan from the president amid a huge round of applause from the audience.

The Indian Territorial Army had conferred the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel to Dhoni on November 1, 2011, months after India won their second World Cup under his leadership. The 37-year-old Dhoni is the second Indian cricketer after Kapil Dev to receive this honour.

2018 Billiards Player of the Year Pankaj Advani also received Padma Bhushan from the President. Advani also has a distinguished career, having won gold twice in Asian Games in 2006 Doha and 2010 Guangzhou. He is also a multiple world-champion. Among others veteran journalist from Assam Prafulla Govinda Baruah, Manipur based weaver L Subadani Devi, Mizoram’s educationist A Zakia.
