More than 524 cases of duplicate Electors Photo Identity Cards have been detected in Meghalaya.
According to the state’s Chief Electoral Officer Dr. BDR Tiwari, the issue involved instances where the same EPIC number was found in different states but linked to different individuals.
All identified cases have been rectified, and new EPIC numbers have been issued to the concerned individuals.
The exercise to identify and correct duplicate entries was carried out as part of a nationwide initiative by the Election Commission of India to streamline electoral data.
Tiwari further informed that on the matter of EPIC-Aadhaar linking, the the process remains optional.
“Since Aadhaar is linked with so many facilities, we are also requesting the voters to link voter’s ID card with Aadhaar…and they can avail the service through the Electoral Registration Officers,” Tiwari said.
