With the surge in COVID-19 infections across the country, Assam is ramping up efforts to vaccinate more and more people in the state.
Assam has a stock of 3.25 lakh doses of Covishield and 2 lakh doses of Covaxin, informed Health and Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday, while sharing the details of the COVID-19 vaccine stock in the state.
Sarma further mentioned that another batch of one lakh Covaxin doses will also arrive in the state soon. He urged all eligible persons to get their vaccines at the earliest.
In a tweet, Sarma said, “As of now we have the following stocks: 1. Covishield ~ 3.25 lakh dose 2.Covaxin ~ 2 lakh dose Another batch of about one lakh Covaxin dose will arrive in a day or two. I request everyone eligible to please go in for your vaccination.
According to a health bulletin issued by National Health Mission (NHM) on Thursday, a total of 12,75,383 people have so far received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine across the state, while 2,75,072 people got the second dose.
Assam on Thursday recorded 499 fresh COVID-19 cases. The new infections took the caseload to 2,22,367.
The COVID-19 death toll in the state rose to 1,123 after one more person succumbed to the disease. The fatality was reported from Kamrup Metropolitan district.
As many as 25 passengers travelling from Maharashtra, Karnataka, West Bengal and other states were found COVID-19 positive at Guwahati Railway Station today. On the other hand, 22 air passengers were detected at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) airport on Thursday.
The NHM said that 1,347 more COVID-19 patients have died till now, but the state government”s Death Audit Board has not included them in the tally of deaths caused by coronavirus as they had other ailments too.
The state currently has a total of 3,613 active cases, the bulletin said.
