The looming Omicron threat has put a dampener on the Sikkim Global Film Festival which is supposed to be held between 10-13 December 2021.
Amid Omicron outbreak, restrictions have been imposed by the State Government of Sikkim on the upcoming Sikkim Global Film Festival. The icons of the film festival from abroad will not participate due to the restrictions imposed on foreign nationals visiting Sikkim.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Lok Nath Sharma, Information and Public Relations Department Minister, stated that the film stars within the State are expected to participate in the event, however, the participants from abroad like USA and Spain including Nepal and Bhutan will miss this films festival.
“We’ll abide by the Government decision and have conveyed the same to the invitees as our topmost priority is the safeguard of the people of the State,” Sharma said.
However, the preparation of the festival is going on and will be held as per the schedule with Covid protocol to be followed strictly. The main attraction icon of the event Malaika Arora will be the ramp in the film festival followed by the national and state-level stars. Sikkim’s legendary film star Danny Denzongpa will also be honoured with the “Life Time Achievement Award” by State Government during the event.
