Not only this, Manipur Congress president K Meghachandra blamed the N Biren Singh government for failing to handle the situation
The Manipur Congress has teared into the N. Biren Singh-led BJP government over the prevailing law and order situation in the hill districts of Manipur, especially violence-torn Churachandpur.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, former Manipur Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader O. Ibobi trained his guns and blamed the present government for everything that has happened so far. According to the former Chief Minister, the government should have thought seriously before taking any action.
O. Ibobi Singh said,”For me this is the wrong policy of the present govt of the state. This is wrong policy. They know the sensitivity of this issue. Before they speak, they should have thought seriously. What will be the consequence, they (govt) should think seriously.”
While reiterating about the strong bond between the tribes in the state, O Ibobi Singh said,”In Manipur there are many tribes, sub-tribes and many other different communities, from centuries ago we are living together. We should have to think very very seriously before we speak, before we act. If they (government) continue like this, it will rebound again and again.”
Not only this, Manipur Congress president K Meghachandra blamed the N Biren Singh government for failing to handle the situation.
During his exclusive conversation with Northeast Live, Meghachandra primarily attributed the chaotic situation to the N Biren Singh government’s sudden move to withdraw from the Suspension of Operation with Kuki rebel groups.
Meghachandra said,”It is very unfortunate that the incidents happened yesterday. So it is because of the failure of the administration, the BJP government particularly this N Biren Singh government.
Because this Kuki people are very angry with the govet since the Kuki UG teams, they are under SoO. But very recently with the decisions of the cabinet, suddenly Biren Ji’s govt has withdrawn the talks with the decisions of the cabinet meeting. So that was done without informing the Centre and the concerned SoO team. This is tripartite talks, the SoO is tripartite. So without giving any notice or considerations to the team like the central govt and the UG groups, with the intention of angry mood, this N Biren Singh govt had withdrawn from the SoO. This is also one of the major points that had created such misunderstanding.”
When his response was sought asking if he thinks that the chaos was an outcome of the government’s move to carry out land survey of forest areas as well as demolition of churches, Meghachandra batted for action as per the law.
He said,”The demolition of these churches that is not in the hill area. The recent demolitions of these churches, were in the government land for building government quarters . That is not too much related. In fact there is something behind the screen which is very sentimental to the Kuki people because of the lack of good administration of the BJP government.
Regarding the survey in hill area, that should be a program of the government. As per the law of the land survey etc must be done. Nobody will be angry if the system is followed with due consideration of the parties.”
