In the wake of speculations about the National People’s Party (NPP) mulling withdrawing its support from the BJP-led government in Manipur, a five-member national team led by NPP’s National General Secretary (Organisation) James Sangma arrived in Imphal this morning.
The team includes NPP Kerala State President KT Thomas, Arunachal Pradesh State Working President P. Bage, Youth Front National President Nickey Nongkhlaw, and Asigi National General Secretary (Law & Administration) Abhaya Keshav. The delegation has been sent by NPP Chief and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to evaluate the situation first-hand.
During the two-day visit, the team will hold discussions with party MLAs and members from various Assembly segments to assess if NPP should continue its alliance with the BJP in Manipur and continue supporting the Biren Singh-led BJP government in the state.
The team will also hold discussions with senior citizens, prominent personalities, and intellectuals of the state to get a first-hand account of the situation on the ground.
Upon their arrival, the team received a briefing from NPP National Vice-President Yumnam Joykumar on the current political and law and order situation in Manipur. Their visit will include interactions with NPP legislators, party leaders, and various social activists.
The team is also set to meet with the NPP Manipur executive members from 2:30 PM to 5 PM today. Tomorrow, October 24, they will engage with senior citizens and intellectuals from 9 AM to 11:30 AM to gather opinions on the ongoing crisis and explore what steps the NPP should take to address it.
The findings from their visit will be compiled into a report, which will be presented at the NPP National Executive Committee meeting. The final decision on whether the NPP will continue its alliance with the BJP government in Manipur will be based on these findings and discussed with NPP National President Conrad Sangma, sources said.
