A final decision on whether or not the NPP will continue with the Biren Singh-led alliance will be taken on October 5 at the NPP’s national Executive meeting
The National People’s Party (NPP), one of the key constituents of the BJP-led coalition government in Manipur is seriously considering to withdraw support to the Biren Singh-led alliance in the state.
Top NPP leaders from the state deliberated on the issue of withdrawing support to the Biren Singh government apart from other burning issues facing Manipur during a meeting held in Guwahati yesterday.
A final decision on whether or not the NPP will continue with the Biren Singh-led alliance will be taken on October 5 at the NPP’s national Executive meeting to be held in New Delhi. NPP national president Conrad Sangma, NPP national vice president Y Joykumar Singh as well as other party leaders will attend the meeting.
The NPP currently has 7 MLAs in the 60-member Manipur Assembly, the BJP has 37 and other allies like NPF has 5, JD-U has one and there are 3 independent MLAs supporting the alliance.
Even if the NPP pulls out, the Biren Singh government will still enjoy majority in the House.
However, if the NPP really pulls out, it will sent out a strong message on governance in the state as of now.
