NPP Announces First List of Candidates for KHADC and JHADC Elections

These elections are pivotal for the councils, each comprising 30 members, as the NPP aims to consolidate its influence across the region.

The National People’s Party (NPP) has announced its first list of candidates for the upcoming elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC). The list includes 18 candidates for the KHADC and 20 for the JHADC, trying to maintain a balance of seasoned leaders and fresh faces.

For the KHADC, prominent figures such as Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pyniaid Sing Syiem, Grace Mary Kharpuri (Nongskhen), Macdalyne S Mawlong (Umsning), and Rangkynsai Kharbuki (Umroi) have been named. Other notable candidates include Lamphrang Blah (Mawphlang-Diengiei), Fantin J Lakadong (Laitumkhrah-Malki), and Carnes Sohshang (Mawkyrwat). Former Rambrai-Jyrngam MLA Kimfa S Marbaniang has been fielded to replace sitting MDC Bajop Pyngrope.

In the JHADC, the NPP’s lineup showcases influential leaders such as Holando Lamin (War Central), Lakhon Dkhar (Amwi-Khliehtyrshi), and Ailad Bhoi (Mukhla-Ummulong). Other candidates include Thombor Shiwat (Moodop-Umladang), Jesse Phasmon Dkhar (Musniang-Rngad), and Hambertus Nongtdu (Sutnga-Nongkhlieh).

These elections are pivotal for the councils, each comprising 30 members, as the NPP aims to consolidate its influence across the region. With a mix of experienced leaders and new contenders, the party seeks to address diverse local concerns and secure a strong mandate.
