Hectic preparations are underway in the Arunachal capital Itanagar for the Christmas festivities. The Christian Revival Church in the heart of the town is all decked up for the big occasion. Christmas trees can also be in and around the main locations in the city. The markets are also abuzz with activity as people indulge in last-minute shopping for Christmas. Organising Chairman of Christian Revival Church in Itanagar Timothy Nima spoke to Northeast Live about the preparations which are being made keeping in mind the Covid protocols.

In Manipur’s Churachandpur people are going for last-minute shopping in Manipur’s Churachandpur district. Busy scenes were also witnessed in the markets of Manipur’s border town of Moreh. Shoppers were abuzz with activity as people gear up for the Christmas feast. Community feasts are common in the Northeast, especially post-Christmas.

And last-minute preparations for Christmas are also underway in Tripura capital Agartala. Faithful are seen decorating Churches and streets on the occasion. It may be mentioned that people from all communities take part in the Christmas festivities in Agartala and other parts of Tripura.
Bishop Lumen Monteiro of the Diocese of Agartala and Father Christopher M Warlarpih Rector and Parish Priest of Don Bosco, Nandangar wished people on the festive occasion.

Visitors thronged Police Bazar in Shillong to bask in the Yuletide spirit. Churches adorned with lights sounds of Christmas carols filled the air of the city as eateries serve lip smacking delicacies for visitors to savour. 

The Christmas celebrations just as the worst wave of Covid-19 pandemic is providing the much needed breath of fresh air for people of the Northeast to breathe in.
