Jumping off a cliff on a motorcycle is something only Tom Cruise can do for his films. For the actor, performing the deadliest of stunts while making a film has become routine. Oh, and, for Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1, Tom Cruise gave his all and nailed what is referred to as the “biggest stunt in cinema history.” He has, once again, set a new benchmark for action films on the global platform. After leaving his fans stunned by thanking them for the success of his latest film – Top Gun: Maverick – while jumping off a plane in South Africa, Tom Cruise has shared a new BTS clip from the sets of the upcoming Mission Impossible films. It shows him riding off a clip on a bike and then achieving a perfect base jump. “So excited to share what we’ve been working on. Mission Impossible,” the 60-year-old actor tweeted alongside the clip.
In the BTS video, Tom Cruise is prepping for the high-flying stunt by performing over 500 skydives and doing around 13,000 motocross jumps. He then nails the actual stunt on an elaborate ramp constructed on a cliff in Norway. All this while director Christopher McQuarrie nervously watches him on screen, with his hand over his head. As per a crew member, Tom Cruise “rode off the clip six times” the day he shot the final take. After the actor completes the stunt, he lands on the ground safely and tells Christopher McQuarrie, “Thanks man, I think I can hold onto the bike a little longer.”
The clip starts with Tom Cruise preparing and coordinating with director Christopher McQuarrie and experts from various fields to execute the master plan in Norway’s Hellesylt in 2020. “This is far and away the most dangerous thing we’ve ever attempted,” says the filmmaker when the actor adds, “We’ve been working on this for years. We’re gonna shoot it in Norway, and it’s gonna be a motorcycle jump off a clip into a base jump. I’ve wanted to do it since I was a little kid. It all comes down to one thing – the audience.”
