No Blast in Guwahati on 26 January: Guwahati Police Commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahanta

The Guwahati Police have clarified that no blast occurred in the city today amid the Republic Day celebrations, putting to rest widespread speculation that arose following reports of a loud noise in the Beharbari area. Early in the morning, panic spread after reports surfaced about a suspected blast in the Beharbari area. Police teams were immediately dispatched to the location to investigate. However, after investigations, no evidence of any explosion was found. Speaking to the media, Commissioner Mahanta stated, “We have not found any indication of a blast. The source of the loud noise heard in the Beharbari area is still under investigation.”

Adding to the tension, an unclaimed bag was discovered at the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Guwahati. Security forces quickly conducted a detailed examination of the bag. Fortunately, the bag was found to be empty, and no suspicious materials were recovered.

The incident underscores the heightened security protocols in Guwahati, with authorities on high alert to prevent any untoward incidents during the national holiday.

While the morning’s events caused brief anxiety, the police’s prompt response and clarification have helped ease fears. Republic Day celebrations across Guwahati continue peacefully, with no disruptions reported so far.
