The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) on Saturday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene directly to ensure the conclusion of the Naga peace negotiations through recognition of the Nagas’ historical rights and in accordance with the principles of mutual respect, dignity and justice.
In a letter addressed to the PM Modi, NMA President Mrs Abeiu Meru and Secretary Lochumbeni Humtsoe held peace interlocutor and Governor RN Ravi and Ceasefire Monitoring Group Chairman responsible for failing to address key issues despite both of them being based in Kohima.
The NMA was referring to Governor Ravi’s letter to CM Neiphiu Rio accusing armed gangs of extorting money. The NMA said if such things were on, the duo should have been able to better coordinate and solve the problem.
The NMA said the peace interlocutor has failed to bring the Naga political groups together for an official peace dialogue to resolve the Naga issue. The NMA took strong exception to a directive from the Governor to what it said about Naga government employees and their relationship to their kin who have a history with Naga underground groups.
The NMA also expressed their protest against the extension of the Disturbed Areas Act and pressed for the ceasefire with the NSCN-IM to be boundary less or without territorial limits.
The NMA has also accused RN Ravi of threatening and hounding the Naga political groups with whom he is engaged in dialogue.
