NIA announces cash awards for insurgents involved in deadly Manipur Ambush

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has declared cash rewards for the capture of ten insurgents wanted over the ambush attack on 46 Assam Rifles convoy in which Assam Rifles Colonel Viplav Tripathi, his family, and four personnel were martyred.

The convoy of the Commanding Officer of 46 Assam Rifles was attacked on 13th November near a village on Indo-Myanmar road under Singngat Police Station of Manipur’s Churachandpur district. NIA which took up the case on 27th November has registered the case under various sections of the IPC.

The rewards declared are Rs 8 lakh, Rs 6 lakh, and Rs 4 lakh for the 10 insurgents from Manipur’s People’s Liberation Army or PLA, which had primarily claimed November’s ambush, and the lesser-known Manipur Naga People’s Front.

It is suspected that the militants are hiding in Myanmar. Five PLA millitants have been already been deported to India on Dcember as part of the investigations into the ambush. These millitants were arrested by the Myanmar Police in 2020 August.
