NH-37 from Silchar to Jiribam: The Union government has approved Rs. 1186.20 crore for the four-laning of a 13 km stretch of National Highway 37, extending from Silchar (near Budha Nagar) in Assam to Jiribam in Manipur. This major infrastructure project aims to enhance road connectivity between Assam, Manipur, and Meghalaya, providing seamless access to Imphal via the Jiribam-Silchar-Ratacherra-Kalain-Jowai-Shillong route on NH-37.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced the project through a post on X, stressing its transformative impact on regional connectivity and economic development. The proposed greenfield alignment will improve accessibility for settlements along the existing road, fostering economic activities and ensuring better connectivity to healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and marketplaces.
“This corridor will significantly enhance connectivity between Meghalaya, Assam, and Manipur by linking Imphal through the Jiribam-Silchar-Ratacherra-Kalain-Jowai-Shillong route on NH-37, providing seamless access to Manipur’s capital,” Nitin Gadkari wrote on X.
The project is expected to significantly boost trade and commerce by providing enhanced access to markets, production centers, and other key economic hubs. Additionally, it will generate employment opportunities and strengthen social linkages, contributing to the overall growth and prosperity of the region.
This infrastructural upgrade is set to improve travel efficiency and reduce congestion, further integrating the Northeast’s transport network. The project aligns with the government’s vision of enhancing road infrastructure in the region to support economic growth and regional connectivity.
