The journalists of our group channel, News Live protested against the arrest and assault of Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami by Mumbai Police on Wednesday.

The journalists protested holding placards inscribed with ‘Black Day for Indian Democracy’, ‘Release Arnab Goswami’, ‘Assam with Arnab’ slogans at the News Live office in Guwahati.

“It is a black day for the fourth pillar of democracy. The arrest of Arnab Goswami seems like the return of emergency period in 1970s. He was arrested from his house like a terrorist. He was assaulted. It is an attack on the free press,” said News Live Chief Managing Editor Syed Zarir Hussain.

The arrest of Arnab has sparked outrage among different sections in his home state Assam.

News Live has launched a campaign #ReleaseArnab which has garnered massive responses from social media users.
