NEIPF condemns horrific act of sexual assault on two women in Manipur

The North East Indigenous People’s Forum has condemned the horrific act of disrobing, parading nude and gang raping one of the two women in Manipur.

While expressing grief over the human tragedies in the state, the NEIPF has asked the Central as well as the state Governments, the National Commission for Women, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes to take cognisance of the offences and take all necessary measures to bring justice and punish the guilty by prosecuting them in a fast track court.

The forum also appealed to all communities for utmost restraint and urged administrations to maintain strict vigil so that no further flare-up takes place between the communities.

NEIPF also urged all stakeholders in affected areas to rise to the occasion and fight for peaceful co-existence and to maintain calm and stress on resolving age-old issues through negotiations.
