The mortal remains of music maestro Neil Nongkynrih reached his home in Shillong at around 3 this morning amid emotional scenes from his bereaved family members, relatives, and well-wishers. The nearly ten-car convoy drove into Whispering Pines after a three-hour drive from Guwahati.

Earlier, Neil Nongkynrih’s mortal remains arrived at the Lokaprya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport late yesterday evening. The body reached the airport at about 9:30 pm.

Members of the Shillong Chamber Choir accompanied the body from Mumbai with relatives and friends from Shillong to the airport in Guwahati.

Nongkynrih passed away at the Reliance Hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday evening.

Neil Nongkynrih’s funeral is set to take place tomorrow. His mortal remains will be kept at his residence today where people will come and pay their last respects to him.

The sudden demise of Nongkynrih shocked Shillongites and people from across the region. Tributes poured in from all sides, paying tribute to the departed music maestro.

In 2010, he led his choir to win India’s Got Talent, catapulting the little Shillong unit to national and international stardom. In 2015, he was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award.
