The Government of Meghalaya has reached out to the National Testing Agency (NTA) with regard to concerns
over National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) examinations conducted in different parts of the state.
“The NEET exams are conducted by central agency namely the National Testing Agency (NTA). In regards to the concerns on the recent exams conducted in different parts of the state, the matter is being taken up with the concerned central agency,” Chief Minister Conrad Sangma posted on X.
This has come after the Khasi Students’ Union West Jaintia Hills Unit and Jaintia Students’ Union on Monday submitted a joint petition to Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma, regarding alleged discrepancies in the NEET examinations conducted on May 5 at St. Mary Mazzarello in Jowai.
Nearly 400 students appeared for the exam.
The student bodies alleged that candidates were provided with two sets of question papers labeled MNOP and QRST respectively. This led to confusion among candidates and even the exam management was initially clueless about which set to attempt.
Later, it was clarified that the questions from QRST were the genuine ones. However, “this has caused significant mental distress to students who had already wasted precious time attempting the MNOP set,” the petition read.
Extra time was also not allocated to compensate for the time lost.
Additionally, students were not allowed to submit their admit cards until late in the evening, resulting in a rush and inconvenience. Moreover, students from far-flung villages were unable to submit their admit cards to date, said the student bodies.
The Student bodies have requested a re-examination of the NEET examination in view of the interest of the students and urged the state government to take measures to prevent such discrepancies in examination in the future.
