Authorities in Assam’s Golaghat district have issued a warning as to possible release of more excessive water by NEEPCO from the Doyang hydro power project in neighbouring Nagaland.

The authorities have sounded an alert among the local populace to be alert as the water level of the Doyang dam’s reservoir has risen again and there is possibility of more water being let off in Assam.

While sluice gate of the reservoir are closed currently, authorities are still speculating that more water might be let off. Hence a warning was issued to the local people especially to those residing near the rivers.

More than 90 villages were inundated when NEEPCO recently released the excessive waters of the Doyang project without any prior warning. The resulting floods caused widespread flood in Golaghat district and scores of people were affected.
