Nearly 1500 kg drugs destroyed in Assam, 1,803 kg in Tripura; HM Amit Shah monitors virtually

As part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s War Against Drugs, nearly 1500 kg of seized drugs were destroyed in Assam and another 1,803 kg was destroyed in Tripura on Monday.
This was part of the 1.40 lakh kg drugs worth Rs 2,381 crore which were destroyed today in various parts of the country. The large scale burning of drugs was monitored and witnessed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The drive was the part of the country’s zero-tolerance policy towards narcotic substances and the government’s resolve to not only curb drug smuggling but also disallow the use of Indian territory for international drug trafficking.
As per official reports, a total of 1,486 kg seized drugs were destroyed in Assam. The seized contraband were burned to ashes in several locations, including Guwahati, Nalbari, Cachar, Kamalpur, Barpeta, Chandrapur, and Garchuk.
“Today the Assam police have destroyed large quantities of drugs including raw materials involving 16KG brown sugar, 20000 bottles of cough syrup, around 2 lakh tablets, over 3000 kilogram of Marijuana and more”, said Diganta Barah, Police Commissioner, Guwahati.
In Tripura, drugs worth Rs. 9.31 crores were destroyed at RK Nagar in the outskirts of Agartala under tight security. These drugs were seized by various security agencies in the recent past in the state.
Drugs destroyed in other parts of the country include 6,590 kg seized by the Narcotics Control Bureau’s (NCB) Hyderabad unit, 822 kg seized by the Indore unit and 356 kg by the Jammu unit, 1,03,884 (1.03 lakh) kg in Madhya Pradesh, 229 kg in Chandigarh, 25 kg in Goa, 4,277 kg in Gujarat, 2,458 kg in Haryana, 4,069 kg in Jammu and Kashmir, 159 kg in Maharashtra, and 4,049 kg in Uttar Pradesh.
With the destruction of drugs on Monday, the total quantity of drugs destroyed in just one year has reached around 10 lakh kilogram with a value of Rs 12,000 crore.
