After nearly two decades, Nagaland is all set to conduct the much-awaited Urban Local Body elections for all 39 Municipal and Town councils on June 26.
There are 3 Municipal Councils–Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) and Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) and 36 Town Councils.
Notably, for the first time, the elections will be held with 33 per cent reservation for women, aiming to enhance gender representation in municipal and town councils.
Neiphu Rio-led Nagaland government has also fixed April 29 as the date of publication of the Election programme.
The filling of nominations will begin on June 7 and will close on June 11 at 3 PM.
The last date for withdrawal of nomination is June 20. Subsequently, scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on June 13.
In case of repolling, the date has been fixed on June 28.
The results will be declared on June 29.
It may be mentioned here that the last successful ULB polls were held in 2004 without the inclusion of 33% women reservation.
