With reports of the Nagaland government’s ‘attempt’ to replace the incumbent DGP of Nagaland, Rupin Sharma, doing the rounds in the state, Nagaland police personnel on Friday held an emergency meeting including all Police Headquarter Staffs in Kohima.

The police personnel proposed to assemble and organise a program at the Police Headquarter’s premises to show solidarity with DGP Rupin Sharma against his transfer and carry out a signature campaign on the 18th of June at 10 AM.

The meeting, which was convened by the police personnel, was held to deliberate on the current issue of transfer of incumbent DGP Rupin Sharma.

Following thorough deliberations the House unanimously resolved to initiate a series of course of action to facilitate the review of the government’s decision to transfer the incumbent DGP.

The House unanimously agreed to seek his retention so that he could continue working as DGP to enable him to fulfill his stated purpose of uplifting the general conditions of the Police Dept which has been long neglected.

The House also decided unanimously to submit a mass petition to the Govt citing the displeasure of the members of the Dept regarding the proposed transfer.

Earlier, on March 24 and 28, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton had sent a letter to the MHA seeking appointment of a new DGP stating that the present DGP lacks seniority and requisite experience to be the state police chief.
