At least three were killed and several others are missing after a massive landslide hit Pherima Village in Nagaland’s Chumukedima district at around 11 pm last night.
Dimapur Police and Chumukedima Administration are on the spot taking stock of situation since last night. The Dimapur-Kohima highway has been totally cut off near Chumoukedima check gate due to the landslide.
As per inputs, one body was recovered last night and two more bodies were recovered today morning following night-long search and rescue operations.
Taking to X, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said, “I’m deeply concerned by large scale destruction on NH-29 caused by incessant rainfall. Authorities are on-site assessing the situation & helping those affected.”
“The State Govt will continue to pursue with the GoI & @nhidcl for immediate measures & restore normalcy at the earliest”, Rio added.
Rescue workers are braving the inclement weather as search operations continue to rescue the remaining survivors.
This is a developing story. We will update as more reports come in.
