Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has been appointed as the new Chief of the North East Regional Power Committee (NERPC) on Wednesday.

NERPC is a committee that looks into various issues relating to power sector in the Northeast.

Rio took over as chairman from Meghalaya Minister James Sangma, who was the former chairman of NERPC.

Taking to Twitter Neiphiu after formally taking over Chairman, Neiphiu Rio said, “Have formally taken over charge as Chairman NE Regional Power Committee from former Chairman @JamesSangma1 Hon’ble Minister of Power, Meghalaya. NEPC is the highest forum which coordinates various issues relating to power sector of NE, including generation & transmission utilities.”

On Thursday, Neiphiu Rio will address the ongoing 21st meeting of the Technical Coordination Sub-Committee (TCC) and NERPC in Kohima.

The meeting will be attended by delegates from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland and officials from various central government undertakings.
