Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee strongly opposed the central government’s proposal for granting an Autonomous Naga Territorial Council to finalise the long drawn Naga Peace Agreement.

Congress Spokepersons opposed the creation of the Autonomous Naga Territorial Council as creation of the Council would mean creation of another state within the state. According to the spokepersons, state unit Congress has a very firm stand against the creation of the Council and would bring up the issue to the parliament if needed.

While addressing a press meet at the Congess Bhawan in Imphal, party MLA NG Bijoy said that as the Council will have a separate administration functioning within the state of Manipur, there is likely to be a clash between the state administration and the administration of the Council.
