Jamir said that nothing has been done despite the fact that people have been waiting for the implementation of these agreements for 9 and 5 years.
Lone Member of Parliament (MP) in the Lok Sabha from Nagaland, Congress’ S Suprongmeren Jamir has raised the Naga political issue in the Parliament and urged the Central Government for an immediate solution.
Jamir emphasised on two agreements for Naga political solutions, signed with the Government of India in 2015 and 2017 and said that nothing has been implemented in letter and spirit so far.
It may be mentioned here that the ‘Framework Agreement’ was signed on August 3, 2015, between Centre and NSCN (IM) and the ‘Agreed Position’ was signed on November 17, 2017, with the Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs), comprising various Naga political groups.
Jamir said that nothing has been done despite the fact that people have been waiting for the implementation of these agreements for years.
He urged Speaker Om Birla to convey to the Union Home Ministry that people in Nagaland want immediate implementation of Naga political solutions.
Additionally, speaking on the Union Budget 2024-2025, he pointed out that although rehabilitation is being discussed, it was never included in the plans or the budget.
He also raised the illegal taxation issue in the Parliament, claiming that while “anti-elements” are collecting taxes, people are being “killed in daylight.” He said that in addition to anti-elements, Nagaland has 24 NPGs.
S Supongmeren Jamir is a first-time Lok Sabha MP. He has won the lone Lok Sabha seat for Nagaland defeating rivals Dr Chumben Murry of the ruling NDPP-BJP led People’s Democratic Alliance and Independent candidate Hayithung Bill Lotha in the Parliamentary election this year.
