Mizo Zirlai Pawl, Mizoram’s most influential student body is on high alert to prevent any possible influx of Bangladeshi immigrants into the state following the publication of final draft NRC on August 30.
The Students’ Union has decided to set up infiltration check gates along the Assam-Mizoram border to prevent influx of illegal immigrants from neighboring Assam.
This decision was taken at a meeting today conducted by the MZP after the state government failed to take any security measures within a stipulated time.
According to the MZP as many as 3,596 Inner Line Permits were issued to non-tribals from Vairengte police check gate from August 1 to August 15.
The MZP on Friday raided some localities at Aizawl and apprehended at least 23 people, who had failed to posses valid ILP.
Earlier the student body had asked the state government to beef up security along the Assam-Mizoram border and set August 15 as the deadline failing which it will conduct ILP raid across the state and set up infiltration check gates along the boundaries to curb illegal influx form Assam.
