Mohammed Shami ruled out of IPL 2024, T20 World Cup participation, requires surgery

Gujarat Titans’ pace spearhead Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

The speedster has sustained an injury to his left ankle and will require surgery to get back into action.

As per inputs, the right-arm pacer is set to undergo surgery to his ankle in the United Kingdom (UK) and hence the 2022 winners will have to look for an ideal replacement for the veteran seamer.

The report also states that he might be ruled out of the T20 World Cup as well.

Shami was India’s top performer in the ODI World Cup in November 2023 but picked up an ankle injury after mega event.

It is highly unlikely that the pace bowling artist would be able to make a comeback before India’s Test matches at home against Bangladesh and New Zealand (October November).

Shami’s absence is a massive setback for his IPL team Gujarat Titans, as he has been a prolific performer for them. In 33 matches for the Titans, Shami has 48 wickets at an average of 21.04 and a strike rate of 15.75, his best for any IPL franchise.

Shami has 229 Test, 195 ODI and 24 T20 wickets in his decade-long career.

Recently, he was bestowed with the Arjuna Award in by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu.
