Mizoram Wins Gold in Taekwondo Poomsae Event At 38th National Games

Mizoram clinched the Gold medal in the Taekwondo Poomsae event at the 38th National Games held in Uttarakhand, defeating Sports Services Control Board ( SSCB) in the final.

The Mizoram men’s team, comprising Lalthlamuanpuia, Venghlui, H. Vanlalfela, Armed Veng South, Daniel Lalhumthanga and Chhinga Veng had previously earned accolades for the state, including a Gold Medal at the 2019 South Asian Games in Kathmandu.

Taekwondo Poomsae is divided into two Poomsae for each round, with the pre-quarterfinal round used to seed the teams. SSCB was seeded first, while Mizoram secured the second spot. In the quarter-finals, Mizoram triumphed over Gujarat, seeded No. 7 with a score of 6.732, leading in both Accuracy and Presentation.

In the semi-finals, Mizoram faced Arunachal Pradesh, a strong contender in accuracy, and won by a narrow margin of 0.017, finishing with 6.749 points.

In the final, Mizoram competed against SSCB. The first Poomsae saw Mizoram take the lead after SSCB faltered in Balance. SSCB attempted a comeback in the second Poomsae, but Mizoram held on to win with 6.700 points, while SSCB scored 6.633 points, securing the Gold for Mizoram.

With 2 Gold and 1 Bronze medal, Mizoram is currently placed at the 27th rank in the medals tally.
