Mizoram is gearing up to host one of the biggest events in India’s paragliding calendar—the International Paragliding Accuracy Championship & Airsports Festival, from December 9 to 14, 2024.
The event will be held in Bawngchawm, Serchhip District. It is an FAI (Federation Aeronautique Internationale) Category-II event, to be held at the Mizoram Aero Sports Association’s Paragliding site. The Festival is being organised by the Mizoram Tourism Department.
This year’s championship will feature participants from 12 countries, including Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Spain, and Malaysia, alongside 78 top paragliders from across India. Although China and Germany were unable to attend due to visa issues, the event still boasts the largest international participation in its history. Competitors will participate in 12 rounds, with their scores contributing to the World Paragliding Ranking System (WPRS).
Beyond the competition, the festival offers a variety of activities for visitors, including paragliding joy rides, hot air balloon rides, angling, air rifle shooting, and free concerts. Special tents will be set up for overnight stays in the picturesque Bawngchawm area.
With a state government-funded budget of Rs 72.66 lakh, this event is poised to boost Mizoram’s tourism, positioning it as a prime destination for adventure tourism in India.
