Stage is all set for polling in Mizoram tomorrow. The state votes tomorrow to elect candidates for its 7th legislative assembly.
Around 7.68 lakh voters will get to choose from 209 candidates from 8 political parties besides independents. The fate of the 209 candidates will be sealed in the EVMs until December 11 which is the result day.
The voters will exercise their franchise in as many as 1,164 polling stations out of which 15 are in Kahnmun in Mamit where the Bru refugees will cast their votes.
As many as 40 companies of CAPF have been deployed in the state for smooth conduct of polls. Authorities have also sealed the Indo-Bangladesh and Indo-Myanmar borders as a precautionary measure.
The highlight of the poll is a desperate bid by Congress to retain power while the BJP is putting a spirited fight to open its account for the first time after it appeared in the state’s political scene in 1993.
Four regional parties in fray with the most prominent of them being the MNF, which is confident of wresting power.
The lead up to the polls saw some high decibel campaigning especially by the national parties with the likes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP chief Amit Shah, Congress president Rahul Gandhi and NPP President Conrad Sangma descending upon the state to drum up support for their respective parties.
Even regional parties like the MNF, ZPM, Zoramthar among others put their best foot forward in their bid to garner support ahead of the elections.
The last week also saw some soft and breezy style of electioneering by some parties as popular singers and musicians were engaged to woo the music loving electorates of the hill state.
