Mizoram reports one fresh COVID-19 case; tally at 142

Mizoram registered a fresh positive case for COVID-19 on Monday, taking the state’s total positive case to 142.

According to an official statement, one sample was confirmed positive out of 562 samples  tested yesterday.

The new patient, who hails from Siaha district, had recently returned to the state from Delhi. The returnee has been staying at an institutional quarantine centre and is asymptomatic.

On the other hand, 3 more persons – two from Aizawl district and one from Mamit district have recovered from the disease and were discharged from the state-run Zoram Medical College during the day.

Of the total 142 positive cases, 12 patients have recovered, while the active cases now stands at 130.

Earlier on Sunday, a 29-year-old female from Aizawl was confirmed positive for the virus, taking the tally to 141. The patient is a returnee from Maharashtra and is currently under quarantine.

Meanwhile, the Mizoram government has extended total lockdown in Aizawl Municipal area, other district headquarters and containment zone areas for another 8 days till June 30 to contain the further spread of coronavirus.

The ongoing total lockdown which came into effect from June 9 was supposed to expire on Monday.
