Mizoram Polls 2023: State gets ready to vote tomorrow, polling officials reach stations

First Published: 6th November, 2023 13:54 IST

174 candidates including 16 women candidates will battle it out for the 40-member Mizoram Assembly

With Mizoram all set for elections to the 40 Assembly Seats tomorrow, polling officials, security personnel, EVMs and other election equipment are being dispatched to various polling booths across the state today.

Security measures have been put in place, deployment and distribution of polling equipment will be completed today. Campaigning came to an end yesterday and soon the fate of the 174 candidates will be decided by over 8.52 lakh voters, as Mizoram votes on Tuesday to elect its new government.

Over the past 1 month, the ruling MNF, the opposition ZPM and Congress and the BJP have tried to reach out to the last voter in a bid to ensure maximum seats. While the MNF is confident of retaining power, the Lalduhoma-led ZPM is upbeat about its prospects and has expressed confidence that it would not need post poll help from any of the parties to form the government.

The Congress on the other hand is also eying a comeback in the hill state but has indicated that it may not shy away from a post-poll alliance if the need arises. The BJP, meanwhile, is hoping for its best ever performance in Mizoram and has openly stated that no one can form government in the state without its support.
